The Maasai Mara is considered Kenya’s best wildlife sanctuary, where plains animals can still be seen which in turn support a large population of predators. The
500-mile yearly migration of one and a quarter million wildebeest with the dramatic river crossings is one of the wonders of the world and a UNESCO world heritage site. Our wilderness safari will have you walking and camping in the wild in the Nguruman Forest and Loita Hills east of the Maasai Mara.

You will be picked up from the airport and driven to your hotel. If you arrive on an early flight, we will get you lunch and do some sightseeing in Nairobi. We may visit the Nairobi National Museum, which is always a good introduction to the country. Later, you will have dinner in one of Nairobi's restaurants.

You'll check out after breakfast and depart for the Maasai Mara. We'll stop for lunch in Narok town. Total travel time is approximately 6 hours. Your camp will be set up in a secluded wooded area overlooking the Mara River in the northern part of the reserve near Musiara Swamp. Hippos and crocodiles can be seen from the campsite in the river below. Our Staff will have already set up camp by the time you arrive. You will meet James Naabala, our local Maasai guide, who has many years of experience guiding in the Mara. He will be our resource person for the
duration of your stay here. You will then go out on your first evening game drive. One day during our stay in the Mara you will accompany James to a Maasai homestead or boma and interact with the local people and gain a deeper understanding of Maasai culture and traditions. If you'd like, we may walk there from camp. Though not included as part of this package, a balloon safari can be
arranged at an additional cost.

Day 03 :
Masai Mara

Morning and evening game drives. Elephants and Maasai giraffe are common. If you’re lucky, you might see a leopard or black rhino. The Mara has Kenya’s largest population of lions with prides numbering over 20 individuals. The open country is also ideal for cheetahs, hyenas, hunting dogs and jackals.

Day 04 :
Masai Mara

Leave camp after an early breakfast for a long game drive to the southeastern end of the park. We will end up at one of the game lodges, Tayari Luxury Tented Camp near Sekenani gate, where we will spend the night. Here we get to freshen up and be briefed on the trip to Loita Hills.

We drive to the southern tip of the Loita Hills just outside Olorte Market. Here we will be only 6Km from the border with Tanzania, deep in Maasai country. We may visit a Maasai homestead, depending on arrival time. Here we will also prep for the hike in the Loita hills.

We break camp early and set off on our first day of hiking. This is a donkey-supported expedition, the donkey being the traditional means of transporting goods among the Maasai. The bulk of our camping equipment will be carried by donkeys. You will only be required to carry a day pack. The first day will take us through Maasai villages to the edge of the forest where we will have our first camp.

Day 07 :
Forest Hike

Our hike will take us north and deeper into the rolling, wooded hills of the Loita Naiminia forest or the forest of the lost child as it is known in the local folklore. This is an area of religious significance for the Maasai. As we get to the top of the hills we will have a spectacular view of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Magadi in the distance.

We turn west and head towards the little market of Entasekera on the western edge of the forest. We will camp at the foot of the beautiful Emburumbutia hills.
During this stretch we might get a chance to visit a Maasai village and get to interact and see their way of life.

Our hike ends at the small market town of Entasekera. We will link up with our support vehicle and camp in a small wooded area just outside town. This will be
the last day and here we get to say our good bye to the Maasai guides. This night
will be spent at camp.

Drive to Nairobi with a lunch stop in Narok town. Drop off at the airport for your departing flight.
